To break it in the music industry and make a name for yourself, it is a hustle and grind. There is so much more outside the music that really decides whether you are successful or not. Sinitus Tempo has experienced this to the max, I have been following Sinitus Tempo over the years and have seen the ups and downs this cat has experienced. But through every experience, thick or thin, he is always dedicated to making some quality music. Ten Wonders is his new project and he has stepped up his game, he has managed to amalgamate a bunch of different styles throughout the album. It is like the album is a dedication to his grind. If you like dope jazzy hiphop, cop this album! He is following in the footsteps of the great Nujabes, but defining his own path. Support Sinitus Tempo by copping the album, Highly Recommended

L’Orange the talented beat smith is back with the EP After The Flowers, he is following up from his highly acclaimed album The Orchid Days. He continues with his signature chopped and diced jazzy production with vocal samples layered throughout. In this EP, he recruits a wide variety of different emcees, singers, and producers from Amerigo Gazaway to the talented UK soul singer Xiomara. With every new release, L’Orange teams up with a new roster of artists proving his creativity and talent. Go cop this free EP, Big ups to L’Orange.
I know that Statik Selektah album dropped about a month and half ago but I am just getting into it and I am really feeling it. Maybe I was just expecting more of another album with the signature Statik Selektah sound, banging drums with some dope soul samples. But Statik Selektah has really stepped his game by adding a layer of jazziness. The jazz samples are cut and chopped up with precision like he has been doing it for years. The stand out track to me is the Slum Villain track with Joey Badass, I think it is one of the best on the album. The horns layered with Joey Badass’s raw and gritty flow is so smooth. The way that Statik Selektah has produced this album, you can really see in the future that more producers will be incorporating more jazz into their sounds. There are so many highlights on this album, go cop it!
Stan Forebee is back, he just dropped his new EP Reflections. He continues where he left off on his previous release Jazz Sessions by still masterfully creating these jazzy landscapes over subtle hiphop beats. In the new EP, he definitely has expanded his sound to include more of a relaxed ambient style. This new style really fits the title of the EP, you just play this EP and you are automatically in this deep thought. Cop this EP and sit back and relax. Highly recommended!

Add another one to the illustrious list of promising UK Soul singers. It is the golden era for young singers and Billie Black, the nineteen year old jazz singer, is ready to make her impact. Although the talented singer veers from the classical soul jazz sound to more of an electronic hybrid, her voice is flawless. Billie Black has just released two singles, the first single I Don’t Need Another Lover has this eerie production with these dark deep drums which contrasts perfectly over her smooth voice. Check out the two singles below, and expect her EP to drop this summer.
Jose James has been a staple in the jazz and rnb game since his debut album The Dreamer in 2008. He continually pushes the boundaries by incorporating different styles in his music while still staying true to his jazz roots. The next progression for Jose James will happen on June 10, 2014 when he releases his next full length album While You Were Sleeping. The new album will be entirely produced by Jose James and Brian Bender. This new creative direction will allow Jose James to be more in control of his sound and I think will allow him to push the boundaries even further. Check out his cover of Al Green’s Simply Beautiful, it will appear on the new album.
I am almost speechless while listening to Xiomara, I am blown away by the ease that she flips these classic tracks from Outkast and A Tribe Called Quest . Xiomara’s voice and delivery is unbelievable, it sounds like a mix of a classic RnB songstress mixed with some classic jazz and blues vocals. It is like she is this hybrid of Erykah Badu mixed with some Billie Holiday and some Nina Simone. Cop these tracks, you will not regret it! Hopefully Xiomara will release some music in the near future.
2014 here you come, I started a little late but I needed some re-charge time. But getting back to it, I think 2014 maybe a highlight year in music, already there has been some crazy releases and we are only day 4. The Mellow Orange crew released two dope releases in the new year and one super close to Christmas. A super plus is that all these releases don’t hit the bank.
Freddie Joachim comes again with his signature chilled out hiphop beats. The Begonia EP are a little extra beats that he has been holding on to. Freddie Joachim has the Midas touch, I want to hear all the beats in the vault.
Question, drops his Favela EP. It is cold out there, cop this release and warm up with some flipped Bossa Nova and Samba beats. You are transported to a beach while listening to these tracks. Question’s digging and straight up music knowledge is a real treat.
Chloe Martini, a new addition to the Mellow Orange roster, the female beat smith comes correct with her first release Reborn EP . The Poland native layers these chillin drum patterns laced with jazzy samples. She is one producer not sleep on!
Mellow Orange is one of the most consistent record labels out there, always dropping quality music. I can’t wait to hear more from them in 2014.
I admit it, I completely missed Joya Mooi’s newest album Crystal Growth until she recently dropped the second single Way of Life, all I can say is, she kills it. The live instrumentation with the dope horns, and her unbelievably soulful voice just makes the perfect track. Every time I hear the Way of Life, I get this smile on my face especially seeing the video, you can see that Joya Mooi loves performing, it is like she radiates joy when she sings. The album Crystal Growth could be considered more of a jazz album but I would classify it in that Robert Glasper type hybrid of Jazz, Rnb, and Soul. The first single Beyond Of You, has that slow tempo with more stripped down production with Joya Mooi’s voice prominently showcased. All I can say is don’t sleep on this album.
Zara Mcfarlane is releasing her second full length album If You Knew her on January 20th 2014. The ultra talented UK jazz singer came on the scene with her debut album Until Tomorrow, it was well received that she received an MOBO award nomination. Zara Macfarlane has this unique voice that is a mix of an traditional jazz singer with some soulful undertones. The new album will be released on Brownswood Recordings, they have released 3 singles, one of my favourites is the cover of Police and Thieves by Junior Murvin, you see Zara Mcfarlane transform that song to her very own. Check the singles below and cop the album in the new year.
