It has been a long minute! Minutes turns to days and then to years but I am back at it. Let’s get it going with Cookin Soul and Kid Frankie with their new single ANILLOS. The infectious beat just takes you for a ride back to the golden era of that boom bap with Kid Frankie supplying those smooth Spanish flows. With just this small sample, I hope they release a full album collaboration because I can only imagine what they can create together. Highly recommended to put on repeat!
Ghostnaut, the Montreal native, just dropped a dope new single paying homage to the masters. The boom bap sound just oozes out of the production and then the track is kicked up to another layer with Raw Collective and Substantial throwing down some dope rhymes. If you haven’t heard any of Ghostnaut’s production, I highly recommend you listening to this tracks. He has this smoothness to his sampling and layering that makes you want to hear more of his stuff. Cop his beats!
French Hip-hop is back in effect and it is coming correct, the new up and comer Le Makizar just dropped the album Schéma de vie at the end of April. Makizar delivers smooth rapid flows over boom bap production provided by Lex, Makizar, and Parental. The album is on Akromégalie Records, and this record imprint continues to drop quality releases. It has been a minute but the music is still flowing. I am a little late getting into Epidemic but I haven’t been so hyped on a group in such a long time. Their flows are on point and the production is super tight, it is like these guys should’ve been releasing albums in the early nineties with their boom bap sound. They just dropped the album 4 dimensions On Paper in April. Go cop this album!!!
Better late than never, the illustrious Damu the Fudgemunk dropped the next three volumes of his How It Should Sound Series on the ReDefinition imprint. He continues where he left off with his signature boom bap, jazzy arrangements, layered with some dope cuts. Damu is probably one of the most underrated producers in the game, his attention to detail of the arrangements is unbelievable. Each time you listen to the album you hear another layer that you intricately placed. Don’t sleep and cop this album!!!
The Brooklyn production duo The Stuyvesants have just dropped their newest beat tape Refined. I can’t figure out why these cats aren’t getting the attention and credit they deserve.
