Australian Soul music is coming correct! Nai Palm of the supergroup Hiatus Kaiyote is set to drop her first solo acoustic album Needle Paw on October 20th. She dropped the first single Homebody earlier this month and it is smooth as butter. Her angelic voice flows effortlessly over the chilled strums of the guitar. I can’t wait to hear the whole album. Check out the single and the new album!

I have mentioned Hiatus Kaiyote multiple times on this blog, and with each new release there is something that needs to be said. Well with the new single Breathing Underwater is no different, Hiatus Kaiyote has stepped up game. It is like they have further refined their sound, the composition and arrangement encompasses both simplicity and complexity while elegantly matches Nai Palm’s vocals. The Melbourne group will be releasing their new album Choose Your Weapon sometime soon, but in the meantime keep Breathing Underwater on repeat.
The Melbourne based group Hiatus Kaiyote is back with a new EP , it is tragically named By Fire because of the loss of Nai Palm’s father in a house fire. While the loss of her father is tragic, I believe with this EP, she is trying to celebrate his life. The sound and rhythms are more gentle and cheerful with her soulful voice coming through. The EP drops Dec 2nd, and their second full length album will drop in 2015. Cop it!
I am guilty of sleeping on Melbourne’s soul group Hiatus Kaiyote, but thank god they are re-releasing their album. Hiatus Kaiyote originally released their debut album Tawk Tomahawk early 2012. The band blends jazz, hiphop, and electronic elements while keeping the neo-soul backbone to their sound. What makes the the re-release super exciting is that the lead single Nakamarra comes with one crazy addition, Q-tip! The Q-tip rap gives another dope layer to already solid song. The vocalist Nai Palm has this super mesmerizing voice,I can’t get enough of this track!
