It has been a quick minute since the last post but the music keeps flowing like the Nile river. Suff Daddy the prolific producer and beat maker just dropped a new single El Pimpi in Palermo off his upcoming album Hair of the Dog. The new single is a banger with his signature thumping bass lines and a perfect mix of soul, funk, hip hop, and some electronic. I can’t wait for the drop album to drop on Aug 18th, 2023. The single is always too short so just hit play again!
Back at it on this Sunday night listening to Gianni Brezzo’s new album Soundscapes Vol. 1 Music for Harlequins and it is a real heater. This album is just layered with dope musical landscapes and intricate arrangements that reminds me of medieval sounding guitars mashed up with some soul and jazz. Marvin Horsch, the multi-instrumentalist / producer behind Gianni Brezzo, created this musical journey for your to just aurally float away while being transported to another era while staying grounded in the present, I haven’t heard anything like it! Go cop this album.

Jakarta Records is probably one of the most consistent music labels always releasing top quality music. They have a wide range of artists from Jazz to Hip-hop including the illustrious songstress Nanna.B. After the success of her two highly acclaimed EPs, the Danish singer released her full-length album Solen. It is a heater, her voice is so dope! It is hard to categorize her sound, it is a mix of hip-hop, RnB and soul sprinkled with some jazz and electronic. The production on the album is tight never overwhelming Nanna.B’s voice. Go cop the album!
Jakarta Records is ready to drop a gem of an album on March 6th, Ill Camille, the LA native and dope female emcee, will release her first album Heirloom. Ill Camille just brings smooth lyrical skills with quick deliveries, dope lyrics, over some jazzy productions. Heirloom is full of guest appearances from SIR, Iman Omari, to Georgia Anne. This album is highly recommended and will be bumpin in my car for a while.
Jakarta Records is one of the most innovative record labels out there, they are always pushing the boundaries by digging up some far eastern classics as well as releasing some new talent. It is like Jakarta Records is always one step ahead of the musical trends. Their Habibi Funk series is one of these dug up classics. The latest release, number #6 in the series, gives us a peek into some dope disco cuts from North Africa and the Middle East. Enjoy this summer mix!
Jakarta Records is one of the most consistent record labels out there, always putting out the freshest releases never compromising on quality. I know I slept on this one but in July IAMNOBODI released a dope collections of some smooth classic hip hop beats. Jakarta Dubplate #1 transports you to the golden era of hip hop productions. IAMNOBODI parts away from his signature futuristic soul to delivers some chopped up soul samples with some tight rolling bass lines. I can’t stop listening to this collection, it is on heavy rotation.
It seems of late that hiphop has to be either grimy beats or straight bangers but it is like the soulfulness is missing, but Juju Rogers is breaking that down with his new album From the Life of a Good-For-Nothing on the Jakarta Records Imprint. Juju brings that smooth flow over chilled out instrumentals. This album is a perfect soundtrack for a late night session, Juju Rogers has linked up with some great producers like JuSoul and TwitOne to create a real masterpiece. Highly Recommended!
Summer is slowly creeping upon us, the longer days and warm weather is positively changing everyone’s mood. One of my favourite parts of summer is BBQs, great food, great company and foremost great summer tunes. Blitz the Ambassador just released the single Make You No Forget to his upcoming album Afropolitan Dreams and it is for sure a summer jam. The infectious afro beat just gets you jammin, you automatically start nodding to the beat. Blitz’s skillful delivery with his conscious lyrics fit perfectly over the highlife hiphop sound. The album will drop on April 28, 2014 and features some music heavyweights such as Seun Kuti, Nneka, Angelique Kidjo, and a few others. Get your summer vibes early and pick up this album.
