Little Simz has been touring North America promoting her new album A Curious Tale Of Trials & Persons which she dropped in late 2015. In all the busyness, she was able to drop a new freestyle over Kanye’s Heard Em Say. As usually, Little Simz’s flow is on point with some quick delivery and smooth rhyming. A Curious Tale of Trials + Persons will be all new material, and even more amazing she is releasing the album on her own label AGE 101:Music. I believe she is so talented that she doesn’t need any big record labels to promote her or hype her up, she lets her flow do the talking. It is a rare that an artist can continually top their previous releases, but with each release, Little Simz is solidifying her place as a top emcee.The UK emcee has some real talent, her ability to flow over such a wide variety of rhythms and beats is unbelievable. It is hard to describe her sound, she even said herself “I don’t have a sound”. There are elements of rnb, mixed with some real bass, topped up with some dope flows. On the new release DROP 3000, IAMNOBODI provides the production on a couple of tracks. I think that collaboration is perfect, IAMNOBODI’s bangin drums over Little Simz rapid fire flow.They really need to do a full length album, in the meantime go download the album from her bandcamp page.
I have been talking about Little Simz for a quite awhile, I don’t think she needs an introduction. Little Simz is the ageless wonder, her youthfulness is evident by the variety of producers she uses, her maturity is apparent by her effortless flows over these complex beats. I think what sets Little Simz apart from other emcees is that she releases music purely for the music, the quality of the music is first, the business is second. All of Little Simz’s releases are free, her newest release AGE 101: DROP 2 is no different and again her flow and delivery are on point. The nineteen year old phenom emcee Little Simz is back! She just dropped a two part single named Mandarin Oranges, the ultra talented beat maker Sango does the honour of providing the production behind both parts .The first part features Michigan emcee Waldo alongside Little Simz and the beat is more of the standard hip hop sound.However, in the second part Sango creates this mellowed out galactic beat that gives Little Simz free reign to deliver and showcase her lyrical expertise. I don’t need to say any more, the evidence is presented in the video. Don’t sleep!
Hip-hop originated from the streets and was governed by the code of the streets. For many years and still today, the code is still intact. One of the overarching rules from the code was respect the elders that laid the groundwork for hip-hop. I feel that many new young emcees thought they were being overshadowed by these veteran emcees and that their message wasn’t being heard. Well as these veteran emcees have slowly left hip-hop or moved, there has been a void in conscious hip-hop and as a result it has hit a dry spell. Well the new generation of emcees have stepped to the plate and are leading by example. Little Simz wants to be heard and has been turning heads with her dope flow and tight delivery. Little Simz is back at it with a dope freestyle over Monica’s So Gone. Every time I hear Little Simz’s rap,I am thoroughly impressed. Her flow, her delivery is of one of a veteran emcee that has been rapping for many years. The UK nineteen year old has a promising music career and I can’t wait to hear more from her.
Female emcees have always to had to try twice as hard to establish themselves in the hiphop game. Many of them had to make a decision to fit in a particular stereotype. They could be a rough and hardcore, in your face rapper or an over provocative and hyper sexy emcee. But the new generation of young female emcees are breaking down these roles. MC Little Simz is based out of the UK and what is astonishing is that she is only 19 years old. Hearing her for the first time, I couldn’t believe how smooth her flow was, it was like she has been practicing since birth.
