It has been over 7 years since J Dilla passed away, yet he is still probably the most prolific and gifted producer that hip hop will ever see. Throughout his career, he produced music for so many artists but the most impressive thing is all his music is still relevant today. A.L.out of the UK drops her Laid Back EP where she sings over Dilla beats. Her smooth vocals create another deep layer over the tight production. Cop it!
Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings are heavyweights in the funk and soul game. Retreat is their newest single from the upcoming album Give the People What They Want and they comeback with their signature sound of soulful vocals backed by tight horns. Highly Recommended!

I haven’t been this excited to hear a mixtape release in a very long time. The UK soul and hiphop group Hawk House formally known as A Yellow Man just released the first single Tidal Tendencies from soon to be released mixtape A Little More Elbow Room. The single gets you into this chilled out mellow vibe. I love the soulful songstress at the end of the song. Heavy Rotation!
Janelle Monae is beginning to hype her sophomore album The Electric Lady (due later this year) by releasing the single Q.U.E.E.N that features none other than Rnb queen Erykah Badu. The song has this neo-funk sound that showcases both of their voices perfectly. I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album and I hope to hear more Badu Monae collaborations.
UK’s songstress Szjerdene has been showcasing her talents over the last few months. She was one of the main singers on Bonobo’s new album The North Boarders. She released her EP Patchwork in January, and has been slowly releasing visuals for each individual song. Szjerdene just dropped the visuals for her song Go and she got the help of The Dutch National Ballet. The visuals are great, and I probably I have never said this before but the ballet was fantastic!
The Soul Motivators are a 9 piece band out of Toronto, Canada and they bring the heat. They combine funk and hiphop into a modern soul sound. I love the horns section and they leave you always wanting more.The group creates uptempo funk sound that gets your body moving. Highly Recommended!
