C2C are back releasing new visuals for their song Delta off their debut album Tetra. The group have been bringing their a-game since their first appearance at the World DMC championships in 2003, which they were crowned team champions. They continued to successfully win the next three consecutive team DMC Championships. The group finally released their first full length album in 2012. C2C veered away from the traditional hip hop sound and push into more EDM while still keeping their roots in hiphop. This transition has helped them reach a wider audience and it is apparent with Tetra reaching number 1 on the French music charts. But regardless of the sound, their technical skills on the turntables is on point. I still think they would win the team DMC championship if they competed. Go check out the visuals below, especially if you are an anime enthusiast.
In the last couple of years Germany has become a centre for hiphop producers and beatmakers and the record imprint Melting Pot Music has been a leader in releasing those beats. Their beat series Hi-Hat club gave these up and coming produces free creative reign to create these dope beat tapes. I highly recommend you check out that series, it has 7 volumes and each is as dope as the previous. Well Melting Pot Music just stepped its game by releasing the debut album The Leaders of the New Brew School by the Austrian- German super group The Betty Ford Boys. With all three of them featured in the Hi-Hat series, the trio consists of Suff Daddy, Brenk Sinatra, and Dexter. While each have their own specific sound, they were able to combine their beats into one dope album. The album has this West coast feel with more laid back beats and layered with some classic Westcoast hip hop cuts. Just Cop it, no questions!
Odd Future’s funk duo The Internet are ready to release their sophomore album Feel Good on September 24th. The Internet consists of Syd tha Kid and Matt Martians, while both handle the production, Syd tha Kid holds down the vocals. Their sound is a mix of trip hop with some funk and soul elements, but the new release Don’t Cha is solidifying that funk. Personally, I think they should go deeper into the funk and soul but I know they will get a lot of criticism for leaving their supposed roots. Check out the two singles below.
Stumbling on music is probably one of my favourite things, I know that I do most of the searching but it is nice to think that maybe all music finds you some way or another. Well I am going to say that Camille Safiya found me . The young singer just released her debut album Island Blues with production being handled by Frankie P. Camille Safiya’s voice is quite similar sound to the late Amy Winehouse, very bluesy yet quite powerful. Island Blues showcases Camille Safiya’s talents through a melting pot of different sounds ranging from straight jazz to more hiphop soul. The album is free and can be downloaded here, Highly Recommended!!
It has been a long minute, but the music keeps on flowin. The sun is shining and the weather has been abnormally hot for early September, I finally understand where Cali gets its laid back vibe. The Cali crew Revolutionary Rhythm represents this easy vibe to the fullest. The group consists of two emcees and one dj, Predominance and Kid Abstrakt hold down the mics with on point flows while DJ Million Faces handles the cuts and scratches. Their sound is very reminiscent of the famous Cali hip hop group People Under the Stairs. Revolutionary Rhythms are close to dropping their new mixtape Art Gallery, but in the mean time they have released a new video for their track Cali Styles. They have recruited the veteran beatmaker and Cali native Freddie Joachim on the boards. The flows are smooth, the cuts are tight, and the beat is infectious, check out the video and stay tuned for the mixtape to drop.
The Mos Def cut “They celebrate my jams in foreign lands” sums up how I feel about the new Blitz the ambassador EP on Jakarta. The Ghanaian born emcee has enlisted a multitude of international artists to help support this EP. You get to hear 20Syl from France, Emicida from Brazil, and his fellow Ghanaian countryman Sarkodie. The Warm up EP has this afro-beat sound that has this swing that will get your head bobbing. There is no question about the talent that Blitz the ambassador has, his flow is tight and his lyrics are conscious and meaningful. The EP can be downloaded for free, so don’t waste a minute and cop it.
Malice & Mario are the ultra talented married couple out of Seattle, Washington. The duo has been making music for many years and they released their first EP Happy 2 Year in 2011 which commemorated their wedding anniversary. The EP was well received on the blogosphere with everyone commenting how soulful and funky their sound is. Jump a few years and Malice and Mario just dropped their new album Enjoy:Like:Love and they are continuing with their super funky soul. The album sounds like a throwback to the 80s with mix of hip hop, funk, and rnb. I can’t enough of this album especially the lead single Flo Joe, it will get you out your seat, the talk box is infectious. Highly Recommended!
Electric Wire Hustle just dropped visuals of a live performance of their new single #BlackWater off their upcoming album Blackwater/Love Can Prevail. EWH brings the heat, the new single is just dope. It has this soulful hiphop sound mixed in with some bluesy elements. The live and raw instrumentation over the smooth vocals creates this hypnotic groove that leaves you wanting more. Electric Wire Hustle are one of the leaders that are pushing the live instrumental hiphop to the forefront. I am loving their sound, can’t wait for the new album!
Little Simz is back at it with a dope freestyle over Monica’s So Gone. Every time I hear Little Simz’s rap,I am thoroughly impressed. Her flow, her delivery is of one of a veteran emcee that has been rapping for many years. The UK nineteen year old has a promising music career and I can’t wait to hear more from her.
Funk soul duo Myron & E’s debut record Broadway is probably one of the most slept on albums this year. I don’t know what it is, but it hasn’t caught on. The two singers have powerful yet distinct voices and the meshing and interplay of their voices creates this irresistible sound that is just infectious to your ears. Broadway is very reminiscent of the Motown sound with a modern funk twist. The whole album is backed by the super talented band the Soul Investigators. Myron & E have released visuals to their second single Do It Do It Disco. After seeing the video, you are going to want to be dancing at a roller jam. Cop this album!
