l'orange

We are at the end of summer and slowly transitioning to fall, the leaves are changing colour and the temperature is dropping. The illustrious L’Orange just dropped the first single off his new full-length album The Ordinary Man.  L’Orange continues with his signature chopped up jazz samples and fantastic arrangements. The Ordinary Man album features some big names such as Oddisee, Del The Funky Homosapien, and many more.  I can’t wait to hear the whole album on Oct 27, 2017. Highly Recommended!

Abstract Orchestra

I don’t know if I have slept on a group more than Abstract Orchestra! The UK hiphop big band out of Leeds gives hiphop a new dimension with their live performance and live instrumentation. The group just dropped a new album which pays homage to the late great J Dilla. Abstract Orchestra’s  J Dilla renditions are some of the best I have heard, they are able to play the classic sounds at the same time creating their own layered sounds. Jay Dee would approve of Abstract Orchestra, go cop the album!

UMII

Summer is in full effect with the warm temperatures, the long days, and the upbeat vibes. Reva Devito, out of Portland, and B.Bravo, out of Los Angeles, just created the supergroup Umii whose sound is perfect for your summer nights. Reva’s angelic voice flawlessly flows over B.Bravo’s signature futuristic funk. The duo has dropped three or four singles but their single Dangerous is hypnotic, I have been playing on repeat for the last few days. Go cop these singles, I can’t wait for a full-length album. Highly Recommended!

soulsquare_hidden_truth_cover

The illustrious Soul Square crew out of France just dropped a new EP, Hidden Truths, and it is a real heater. They linked up with the smooth beatsmith Racecar to provide the dope rhymes over their classic jazzy sound. Soul Square never ceases to amaze me with their dope arrangements and a fluid sound. Go cop this EP!!

Hot Brass 8 Band.jpg

It has been a long minute since I last posted, but the sun is out, the warming temperatures, got me inspired to post. The Hot 8 Brass Band, out of New Orleans, dropped a new album On The Spot and it has some real heat. The group creates some magic combining Funk, Big Easy Jazz, and some Hip-Hop. If you are a sucker for the horns like me, this album is going to be your summer BBQ soundtrack. Go Cop this album!

Natalie Oliveri

I first heard Natalie Oliveri on the Freddie Joachim Remix of her song Treasure, and ever since I have been a follower. Natalie Oliveri, the illustrious songstress, just dropped a new single Timezone with BlvckVmish handling the production duties. The electro-soul production layers so well with Natalie’s silky smooth vocals to create this perfect soundscape. I highly recommend this single, and plus it is for free!

The Way of Life

Dee La Kream

France has always been a hotbed for dope jazzy hip-hop, from early Oxmo Puccino to Hocus Pocus. The French beatmakers have taken Boom Bap to another level. I feel that North American hip-hop is moving away from the Golden Era sound and that has left a void for the European beatsmiths to put their own touches on the distinctive sound. Dee La Kream out of Paris, France just dropped his first album, The Way of Life and it is a heater. The album just oozes boom bap and smooth jazz samples over dope drum arrangements which create these silky dreamy soundscapes. Dee La Kream was able to recruit an illustrious roster to feature on the album which includes the Gift of Gab, Georgia Anne Muldrow, and many more. Go Cop this album!!!

Onra

What a surprise! Onra, the illustrious beatmaker, dropped the final installment of his fantastic trilogy Chinoiseries. He samples and chops some old asian records he has collected throughout his travels to create some dope hip-hop beats. He hasn’t skipped a beat since the last release, and #3 is looking to be his best yet. Highly recommended!

ill-camille

Jakarta Records is ready to drop a gem of an album on March 6th, Ill Camille, the LA native and dope female emcee, will release her first album Heirloom. Ill Camille just brings smooth lyrical skills with quick deliveries, dope lyrics, over some jazzy productions.  Heirloom is full of guest appearances from SIR, Iman Omari, to Georgia Anne. This album is highly recommended and will be bumpin in my car for a while.

petijee

I apologize for the delay between posts, my bad, but let’s get to the music! Petijee on the Humble Grooves imprint just dropped a new full-length album Soul Paper Scissors, and it is dope! The Slovakian beatmaker layers and arranges some dope jazz samples over some great piano. One of the guest features includes the soul man Miles Bonny, and that track is fire! Go get this album!
