We may be in the depth of winter but the music is still flowing and bringing warm vibes to your soul. The latest heat comes from beat maker Mz Boom Bap out of Porto, Portugal. I first heard the beatmaker on Ryler Smith’s Alleviation EP, he continues where he left off bringing those Golden Era sounds to our ears.  The Rawness EP is filled with dope horn samples, intricate drum patterns, and dope emcees leaving you wanting more. Highly Recommended!

cm-jones

It has been a quick minute since the last post, but the music is still streaming quickly and I am feeling it. October is going to be a good month, CM Jones’ new album M O T I O N S   is dropping on October 15th on the Munchie Records Imprint. He released one single and a sampler track of the album, it sounds fantastic! It is a melange of different sounds and layers that ooze out smoothness. Don’t just take it for me, go listen to it below!

Cenario

It is a golden era in German hip-hop production! North America is focused on moving away from the Golden Era sound that heavily samples classic jazz and soul records, Germany and Europe are embracing it. The German record imprint Melting Pot Music has a roster of some dope emcees and producers, one of their up and coming producers, is the illustrious Flofilz. He just dropped his newest album Cenário,  and it is dope. If you love jazz and hip-hop, cop this album. It is more refined, with some more intricate arrangements than his previous release Metronom. Don’t wait!!

cover

Before even a full release, the group The Jazz Knuckles have already ceased to exist. The group consists of two emcees and one producer, Juju Rogers and Eloquent handle the vocal duties,  while the production is handled by Ill Will. The group internal issues prevented the self-titled album from being released, which is a huge shame! This album has it all, dope jazz samples, great vocals which are in German and English. If you can cop the demo album, it is a keeper.

Ghostnaut

Ghostnaut, the Montreal native, just dropped a dope new single paying homage to the masters. The boom bap sound just oozes out of the production and then the track is kicked up to another layer with Raw Collective and Substantial throwing down some dope rhymes. If you haven’t heard any of Ghostnaut’s production, I highly recommend you listening to this tracks. He has this smoothness to his sampling and layering that makes you want to hear more of his stuff. Cop his beats!

Shabaka

It has been a long minute since I last posted on the site, but I am back on the musical tip. I was blown away by listening to the two singles from Shibaka and the Ancestors. They are an 8 piece jazz group out of the UK that is melding jazz with the traditional sounds of South Africa.  They recorded the album Wisdom Of Elders in Johannesburg incorporating the traditional sounds with classic jazz. The two singles Mzwandile and Joyous blew me away with the richness of sound and rhythms. I don’t think I have been so pumped for an album to drop after just listening to two tracks. Go listen to the two singles and the album will drop September 16th. Highly Recommended!!

Habibi Funk

Jakarta Records is one of the most innovative record labels out there, they are always pushing the boundaries by digging up some far eastern classics as well as releasing some new talent. It is like Jakarta Records is always one step ahead of the musical trends. Their Habibi Funk series is one of these dug up classics.  The latest release, number #6 in the series, gives us a peek into some dope disco cuts from North Africa and the Middle East. Enjoy this summer mix!

salute one more chance

I am still on the UK soul tip, that scene is really pumping out some dope releases that are really pushing the bounds.  Salute out of Brighton is one of these cats, his voice is so smooth.  I have been listening to this cover of Rihanna’s Work and I can honestly say, I enjoy his version much more. Salute’s next release One More Chance has a more uptempo production but his voice still shines. Go check him out!

Tom Bailey

Lately, I have been giving all the attention to the UK songstress, but I am not going to discriminate. The males have been hustling as well to bring some dope soul to your ears. Tom Bailey, based out of London, just dropped musical medley bomb yesterday. He combines the sounds of D’Angelo and Prince. Tom Bailey’s voice is on point, just go listen to the track.

Nao

The new and upcoming UK songstress Nao dropped a new single, Girlfriend and she is ready to drop her debut album For All We Know. The album should be dropping at the end of July. Nao’s sound is reminiscent of some classic 90s RnB mixed with some current updated electro rhythms. Nao’s voice is always on point and I can’t wait for the album.
