Little Simz is back at it with a dope freestyle over Monica’s So Gone. Every time I hear Little Simz’s rap,I am thoroughly impressed. Her flow, her delivery is of one of a veteran emcee that has been rapping for many years. The UK nineteen year old has a promising music career and I can’t wait to hear more from her.

Brooklyn emcee Scienze released his new LP Ella on July 9th, and man it is full of heaters. Scienze gets the help of a multitude of different emcees from Blu to Fresh Daily and the production is provided by Vinyl Frontiers, Ski beatz, NAMELESS and many more. The LP showcases the talented Scienze skillfully and effortlessly rhyme about the ups and downs of love. The theme of love is apparent through the visuals for the joint singles Quest(ion) and Answer. Female emcees have always to had to try twice as hard to establish themselves in the hiphop game. Many of them had to make a decision to fit in a particular stereotype. They could be a rough and hardcore, in your face rapper or an over provocative and hyper sexy emcee. But the new generation of young female emcees are breaking down these roles. MC Little Simz is based out of the UK and what is astonishing is that she is only 19 years old. Hearing her for the first time, I couldn’t believe how smooth her flow was, it was like she has been practicing since birth. The DassWassUp crew presents a live session with up and coming female emcees Pumpkin and Rita J. Pumpkin has making a name for herself in the french hip hop game with her smooth flows and dope delivery. The Brooklyn production duo The Stuyvesants have just dropped their newest beat tape Refined. I can’t figure out why these cats aren’t getting the attention and credit they deserve. Dutch Beatmaker Stan Forebee released the single Pefect Your Own Art. Mr. Forbee fabulously combines the true elements of jazz and hiphop into this smooth and melodic beat. The dope piano sample layered over the tight drums gets you in a chilled mood. I can’t wait for the full length release coming soon.
In April, Spanish beat smiths Cookin Soul collaborated with Dutch femcee Melodee to release the LP My Tape Deck on the Jakarta Records imprint. MC Melodee delivers her signature smooth flow over some classic boom bap production. The single Think Twice flips Donald Byrd’s classic song to create a smooth delivery of modern jazzy hip hop. They have just released the visuals for the single Think Twice, the video is filmed in Curacao which pays respect to her Caribbean roots. I hope to see more releases from this collaboration. Polish duo Dj Czarny and Tas dropped their new album Passion.Music.Hiphop in early May. The talented pair incorporate turntablism and tight scratching into their jazzy boom bap style. The album flows quite well, creating a mellow vibe that gets you head nodding throughout. They get the likes of Raashan Ahmad, Kohndo, and Muneshine to drop a few rhymes, it creates another dope dimension to the album. Highly Recommended!
Mr. Moods’s new jazz interpretation album Jazz Reinvented is a dope combination of classic jazz, downtempo, with some bangin hip hop production. The whole album has this chilled out mellow vibe, layered with some great jazz samples. This is a late night album, it should be listened to while smoking a bunch cigarettes, contemplating the night.
8 Miles to Moenart is Tall Black Guy’s debut album on the First Word Records imprint. He has been receiving praise for his innovative and creative production which includes winning the Robert Glasper Remix Contest. His debut album is culmination of the various influences that Tall Black Guy received growing up in Detroit. Hiphop beats laden with soul flips and jazz samples, Highly Recommended!
